What Is It?
Chin filler balances the profile by placing hyaluronic acid based product at the tip of the chin. The point here is not to enlarge the chin but to establish proportion in how the face reads from the side.
A profile is read from three points: the tip of the nose, the lips and the tip of the chin. When those three sit in a certain relation the face looks balanced; when the chin sits back, the nose reads as larger than it is and the neckline as shorter. That is why chin filler often comes up in someone who arrived complaining about their nose or their double chin — the problem is not where they thought it was, but in the balance.
How Is It Done?
Treatment begins with profile analysis. A side photograph is taken and the nose-lip-chin relationship measured; how far back the chin sits, and the height and width of the chin, are each assessed. Dental occlusion is also checked, because where there is a marked bite discrepancy the balance filler can provide is limited, and that is stated at the outset.
The chin tip is an area that needs support over bone, so firmer products are preferred and placement is deep. Topical anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand. The procedure averages 15-20 minutes. At the end the profile is checked both at rest and while speaking.
Who Is It For?
Suitable for people whose chin sits back in profile, whose face looks unbalanced from the side, or whose submental area appears prominent because of a lack of volume. Planned together with jawline filler, the lower face is addressed as a whole.
Where there is a marked bite discrepancy or skeletal chin retrusion, the balance filler can provide is limited; orthodontic or surgical assessment is advised in those pictures. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, active infection at the site, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled autoimmune disease and known allergy to the product all change the planning and are discussed individually at examination.
Process & Recovery
Profile analysis
A side photograph is taken; the nose-lip-chin relationship and the height of the chin are measured. Dental occlusion is checked and the expectation is discussed alongside those measurements.
Treatment day
After topical anaesthetic cream, firmer product is placed deep at supraperiosteal support points. The procedure takes 15-20 minutes.
First 48 hours
Swelling and tenderness occur in the area and bruising is possible. Heat, intense exercise and pressure on the area should be avoided.
First 2 weeks
Swelling resolves and the product settles into the tissue; the profile takes its final shape in this period. Assessment is not made before then.
Review
A review is carried out at the end of the second week. The profile is compared with before-and-after photographs and a small top-up is planned if needed.
Results & Duration
The change in profile is visible during the procedure, but the final appearance becomes clear once swelling resolves, on average within two weeks.
Duration varies with the product, the amount placed and individual metabolism; the range generally reported for this area is 12-18 months. Because the chin tip is a relatively static area, product breaks down more slowly than in most regions. Renewal can be planned as the effect fades.
What Is Not Promised
Chin filler does not change the underlying bone and does not replace chin surgery. It does not correct dental occlusion, does not gather lax skin and does not dissolve fat under the chin.
No particular profile or duration is guaranteed. Volume beyond what the area can carry grows the chin downward rather than forward and spoils the natural look, so the amount is planned around the measurements taken. Expectations are discussed alongside your anatomy.
