Cheekbone Filler
What Is It?
Cheekbone filler restores lost volume by placing hyaluronic acid based product at the support points of the midface. This is often where ageing shows first: as the fat compartments shrink and descend the cheekbone flattens, a shadow forms beneath it, and the face begins to read as tired.
What makes this area particular is that its effect is not confined to itself. When the midface is supported, the tissues below it gather somewhat too, so an indirect softening can be seen in the under-eye shadow and the nasolabial fold. But this is not a lift — it is tissue settling back into place, and it has a limit.
How Is It Done?
Treatment begins with facial analysis. The degree of volume loss over the cheekbone, skin thickness and the difference between the two sides are assessed; whether the shadowing comes from volume loss or from skin laxity is established. Filler placed without making that distinction can weigh down sagging tissue rather than lifting it.
Support points are marked and product is placed deep, over bone; more fluid products are preferred in areas closer to the surface. Because the region requires care in vascular terms, a cannula is generally used. Topical anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand. The procedure averages 15-20 minutes; symmetry is checked at the end both at rest and while smiling.
Who Is It For?
Suitable for people who notice flattening and volume loss in the midface, a shadow forming beneath the cheekbone, or a face that looks tired even when rested. It usually comes up from the mid-thirties onwards.
Where the real problem is skin laxity, filler alone will not meet the expectation and can weigh the appearance down when overdone; a different approach is discussed in that case. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, active infection at the site, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled autoimmune disease and known allergy to the product all change the planning and are assessed individually at examination.
Process & Recovery
Facial analysis
The degree of volume loss, skin thickness and the difference between the two sides are assessed; whether the shadowing comes from volume or from skin is established. Photographs are taken.
Treatment day
After topical anaesthetic cream, product is placed deep at the support points, generally with a cannula. The procedure takes 15-20 minutes.
First 48 hours
The cheek feels tender and looks a little swollen; bruising is possible where the cannula entered. Keep off the treated side when sleeping, skip the gym and stay out of hot rooms until it settles.
First 2 weeks
Swelling resolves and the product settles. The cheekbone can look fuller than intended in the first days; the true appearance emerges in this period.
Review
At two weeks we look at the two sides together and at how the cheek meets the area below it. A small top-up is added there if the transition needs it.
Results & Duration
The volume effect is visible straight after treatment, and the final appearance becomes clear once swelling resolves, on average within two weeks. With the midface supported, an indirect softening can be seen in the under-eye shadow and the nasolabial fold, though this has its limit.
How long it holds comes down to the product, how much went in and how quickly your body breaks it down; 12-18 months is the range usually reported. The cheekbone moves little, so product tends to outlast what you would see in a mobile area.
What Is Not Promised
Cheekbone filler is not a face lift; it does not gather excess skin where laxity is advanced. It does not fill under-eye hollowing directly — its effect there is indirect and limited. It has no effect on pigmentation or skin-quality problems.
No particular facial appearance or duration is guaranteed. Excess volume here widens the face rather than rejuvenating it and spoils the natural look, so the amount is limited by the facial analysis and completed in a second session if needed.
Key Benefits
- Young profile
- Midface support
- Sharp face contour
“The most common mistake at the cheekbone is widening the face while trying to fill a shadow. Every millilitre placed here changes the whole face — so treating lightly and waiting beats trying to correct later.”
— Dr. Sinan Akyürek
Frequently Asked Questions
Will cheekbone filler widen my face?
Not with measured treatment. Widening happens when more volume is placed than the area can carry, which is why the amount is limited by facial analysis.
Will it fix my under-eye shadow?
It does not fill it directly. With the midface supported an indirect softening can be seen, but that has a limit and the under-eye is a separate subject.
Does it lift?
It is not a lift. Tissue settling back into place creates a gathered appearance, but that effect is insufficient where laxity is advanced.
How long does it take?
Around 15-20 minutes, and you can go straight back to your day afterwards.
Is it painful?
Numbing cream goes on first and a cannula is usually used, so what people mostly report is pressure rather than pain.
When will I see the result?
You see it the same day, though swelling makes the cheek look fuller than it will be. Give it two weeks for the true shape.
How long does it last?
The range generally reported is 12-18 months. As the cheekbone area is static, product lasts longer there.
Is it reversible?
Hyaluronic acid based products can be dissolved with hyaluronidase; where the result is not what you wanted, the area returns to its previous state.
