What Is It?

Exosomes are nano-sized vesicles secreted by cells and enclosed in a lipid membrane. They carry molecules such as proteins, lipids and RNA, and their role is to carry information between cells. This is not a filler or a volume product; it is a treatment intended to work at the level of signalling in the tissue.

With exosomes there are two separate questions that should not be conflated. The first is which area is treated — face, scalp, neck. The second is which raw material the product is made from: plant-sourced and animal-sourced exosomes are different product families, and that distinction has nothing to do with the area treated. A third variable is dose: the amount used varies markedly by product and by person, and there is no fixed figure.

How Is It Done?

Treatment begins with skin assessment. Whether the problem is tissue quality, volume loss or pigmentation is established — exosome treatment addresses only the first of these. Two decisions then follow: the source (plant or animal) and the dose. Both are set according to the condition of the skin, the expectation and any previous treatments.

Topical anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand. The product is delivered into the superficial layer of the skin with very fine needles through evenly spaced points; in some protocols it accompanies microneedling. A session averages 30 minutes. Session count and intervals vary with the product chosen; usually 1-3 sessions are planned.

Who Is It For?

Considered for people who describe dullness, tissue fatigue, fine surface lines and a general loss of vitality. It often comes up where the skin looks tired after heavy sun exposure, smoking or a demanding period.

It will not meet expectations on its own where there is marked volume loss, deep lines or advanced skin laxity — those are different subjects. Pregnancy and breastfeeding, active infection or inflamed skin lesions at the site, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled autoimmune disease and known allergy to the chosen product’s contents all change the planning; allergy history is asked specifically when the source is being selected.

Process & Recovery

  1. Assessment and two decisions

The source of the skin problem is established; then the product source (plant or animal) and the dose are set. Allergy history is asked alongside the source decision. Photographs are taken.

  2. Session day

After topical anaesthetic cream the product is delivered into the superficial layer through evenly spaced points with fine needles. Some protocols include microneedling. The session averages 30 minutes.

  3. First 24 hours

The skin looks flushed and small raised points sit where the product went in; both usually fade within a few hours. Keep the face bare for the rest of the day and leave pools, saunas and hard training until tomorrow.

  4. Between sessions

How long you wait depends on which product was chosen. Hydration and radiance often shift first in this window, while any change in the tissue itself is still some way off.

  5. End of series

Once the planned sessions are complete the result is assessed by photographic comparison. Maintenance is needed for the effect to continue.

Results & Duration

The effect appears gradually across the series rather than after a single session. The first difference is usually in hydration and radiance; a change in tissue quality requires completing the series and then waiting a few weeks.

Response varies markedly with the product chosen, the size of the dose and the starting condition of the skin. Comparing yourself with someone else’s result is therefore misleading — two treatments called by the same name can be entirely different things at different sources and doses. The effect is not continuous and requires maintenance.

What Is Not Promised

Exosome treatment is not a filler: it does not add volume, does not fill deep lines and does not reshape areas such as the cheekbones or chin. It does not gather lax skin, does not replace a face lift, does not lighten pigmentation on its own and is no substitute for sun protection.

No particular skin appearance, session count or duration is guaranteed. Because dose and source vary by person, no fixed protocol is promised either. If expectations do not match the skin’s actual problem, that is discussed openly at examination.

Key Benefits

  • Skin renewal support
  • Tone and vitality
  • Skin quality

“When a patient says “I want exosomes”, they have not actually said anything yet. From which source, to which area, how much — until those are clear, two treatments sharing a name are not the same thing.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Is exosome treatment a filler?

No. It does not add volume or fill lines; it is intended to work at the level of signalling in the tissue.

What is the difference between plant and animal sourced exosomes?

The difference is the raw material the product is made from — plant sources come from plants, animal sources from animal tissue. This has nothing to do with the area treated; which one suits you is decided at examination.

How much is used?

Dose is a large variable and differs markedly by product and by person. No fixed amount is quoted; it is decided at examination.

How many sessions are needed?

Usually 1-3 sessions are planned, though the number and interval vary with the product chosen.

Is it painful?

Numbing cream goes on first and the needles are very fine, so most people report a short prickling rather than pain.

When will I see the result?

Hydration and radiance shift first. For a change in tissue quality the series has to be finished, and then a few weeks allowed on top.

How does it differ from mesotherapy?

Mesotherapy nourishes the skin with a mixture of vitamins and minerals; exosome treatment works through vesicles that carry cell signals. In suitable cases they can be combined in one protocol.

Which situations need separate assessment?

Pregnancy and breastfeeding, active infection or inflamed lesions at the site, bleeding disorders, uncontrolled autoimmune disease and allergy to the product contents all change the planning; these are discussed alongside the source decision.
